Gladstone Villa - Oshawa, Ontario

The Oshawa office of the law firm Kelly Greenway Bruce is located at 114 King Street East, Oshawa, Ontario.
The house, with its familiar library, was built over a century ago by Frederick L. Fowke.
Mr. Fowke was a former Mayor of Oshawa and Liberal Member of Parliament, during the administration of Sir Wilfrid Laurier.
When the house was built in 1903, it was given the name Gladstone Villa, after the great British Prime Minister, Sir William Gladstone.
The Oshawa law firm has preserved much of the original Fowke house and has taken special care to retain all of the original stained-glass windows. Mr. Fowke's strong interest in English literature is reflected in two of the windows, found in Terry Kelly's office, depicting John Milton and William Shakespeare. Another window in the reception area marks what was once the music room.

In 1908, Mr. Fowke added the library on the east side of the house. He patterned it after the Parliamentary Library, with its octagonal shape and turret. The library has oak book-shelves on all walls and the original oak fireplace.
The law firm offices were featured by the Oshawa Historical Society as part of "Oshawa's Hidden Heritage". The property has also won numerous awards as part of the City of Oshawa "Communities In Bloom" competition. Please feel free to drop by any time to tour this century home and to see the decorative plaster work and stained-glass windows in our offices.
To serve our clients in the City of Kawartha Lakes and surrounding areas, Kelly Greenway Bruce has opened a second office, located at 272 Kent Street West, Lindsay, Ontario.
